Cycling
Proud to say that I have finally picked up cycling after 19 years of my life. (while most ppl usually learn during primary sch?) Took only abt 10 minutes before I could cycle steadily for a distance. Din fall down or anything, haha. Quite cautious abt my safety. I dun see anyone falling off the bike, everyone seemed to know how to cycle already. So paiseh for a grown-up to fall off the bike on his own.
Yup, went to East Coast to take my first step in cycling. The road was rather congested, and learners like me would naturally block the road. There were quite a few learning rollerblading too. Saw some fall, which is understandable since rollerblade is much harder to balance and control. (but falling off bike without external influence is no-no for me =p)
The first 10 minutes on the bike was the toughest, then out of sudden I was able to cycle steadily. The feeling just came lol. Very shiok to experience cycling for the very first time! Felt great to see things zooming past me and sense wind blowing into my face, without being tired (as opposed to running). However I would become unstable while passing through congested or narrow spaces. Yeah, the fear of crashing into others. Need some clearance to cycle steadily, it's a psychological effect... I guess I have to build up more confidence in this part.
The slower I cycle, the unsteadier I get. (due to the lack of momentum to overcome irregularities of road surfaces and maintain balance, it's all physics blah blah) So I learnt how to cycle faster. Dunno what was my top speed but I think it's already quite fast for a first-day learner. Travelled from the Mac area to the western end of east coast, near sheares bridge, and back again. Very far IMO...very tired, legs were sore and butt hurt. But really proud of myself for the accomplishment, though I know this is merely an easy feat for most of you.
Recalled the cohesion trip with my junior class to east coast. Din know how to cycle then, and there was no one to teach. Walked all the way from one area to another, can die one leh. >_> Luckily the class din travel around much. Actually I could just pick up a bike and learn on the spot right? After all it only takes a few minutes. Why din I think of that haiz...

Chemical Defence
Attended chemical defence training early this week. Din expect to undergo this training so early in my NS, when most of my seniors had not gone for it before. Like grenade throwing in BMT, it's a once-in-a-lifetime experience to wear the suit (called IPE I think) and enter the smoke chamber.
The IPE was so uncomfortable, they seemed to be oversized. The pants was so loose that it would just drop if not for the suspenders. Sweated profusely the moment I put on the super thick coat, really stinked, esp after wearing it on the 2nd day. The best part was the rubber mask, which looks like a housefly's face lol. Had to breathe faster with the mask on due to lesser intake of air, quite exhausting if worn for long, felt dizzy after that too. So many velcros and clips on the IPE...troublesome.
The smoke chamber was not as bad as I heard. Felt a hot stingy feeling on my waist (pants too loose) and the sides of my face (din velcro properly hehe), like chilli being applied on my skin. Luckily everything went very fast and I was out in no time. The gas was terrible when I took off the mask. Nose hurt and mucus was trickling out. Din 'cry' lah, haha, probably cos my eyes are small. Anyway, earned a free half-day off thanks to the instructors' efficiency, or rather their laziness haha.
Off on Monday! Yippee!!! 4-days super long holiday! (there is going to be another 4-day hols at the end of this year too ^_^) Wanna make use of the time to learn cycling. =p
Watched Death Note today. Very nice! Better than I expect! Though it strays off from the manga plot a little with the addition of Light's girlfriend, overall it's still nicely potrayed. Those who think it's just another Jap horror movie, they are very very wrong lol. More of mystery and suspense, same genre as detective movies.
Death Note forever!

Vivacity
Finally got to visit Vivocity on Fri! Quite big, but din manage to explore the entire area due to the large group of friends. Had a tough time looking for a place to settle down and have our dinner, esp when the place was so super crowded. Walked ard until one of my friend was almost collapsing of hunger lol. Eventually decided to eat at the hawker centre instead. -___- So much for the largest shopping mall in Singapore...
The sky graden is really good IMO. The amphitheatre is ideal for groups of friends who wish to sit down peacefully and talk cock after a day's shopping, movie, meal etc. Nice spot for card playing as well, hehe. Admiring the scenery of Sentosa and the nearby port is rather comforting too. Can't wait to go there again! Hopefully can get to watch 'Death Note' there.
Thinking abt it, I've nvr been so enthusiastic abt a shopping centre before. Din care when Marina Square was revamped, nor get so excited when Suntec City opened almost a decade ago. Seems like I've learnt how to enjoy life now. =)
Planning to go for a buffet soon. Doing some research on various restaurants and their prices. A Japanese buffet would be nice, but I wanna have choices other than just sushis. Haven't eaten buffet for a long loooooong time!!! (Steamboat doesn't count...>_>) Thought of dining at a hotel's restaurant, to know how high class cuisine really tastes like, and how different will it be from shopping centre's restuarants. Eating good food once in a while is nice, to 'chong yi chong zi ji', dun mind the high price. =p
So ironic, considering I claimed myself to be getting fat not long ago and decided to eat less. Sometimes I dun really know what my mind is thinking lah, haha.
Haze's back this weekend! So weird, seems like the person setting fire to the forests is only working in the weekends lol. Many ppl were complaining that it was very hazy this morning but yet the PSI reading is still below 100. Uh, shouldn't they be happy instead? Our eyes might be fooling us when the air quality is actually not that bad. Apparently many are praying that the PSI reaches as high as possible, esp those sch kids, becos of you-know-what-happened-3-years-ago. Haiz, The 'xing zai le huo' mentality in humans...
Honestly if I were still schooling I would have wished for a high PSI too, hehe. But then you know, the army dun care very much abt the haze. Everything still resumes as normal.
Just heard the news: school will only be cancelled when the PSI reaches 300. Hahahaha. I doubt it will ever reach that high. Even if it really did, the media would probably alter the readings to avoid panic, like what most ppl have suspected today due to this morning's visibility-PSI discrepancy.

A Hazy MAF
Went to HC's MAF celebrations yesterday, felt nice to go back to school again and meet up with my fellow classmates, batchmates, CCA-mates, juniors as well as seniors. That was the 2nd MAF I've gone to. Din go last year and I remember my first MAF the prev year was a horrible experience. Glad to have Zhe Han with me this year too. =) Surprised to see Wenjia there, who rushed to school after his test ended at 9. Quite disappointed that I din get to meet and chat with certain ppl I wished to see cos of the crowd.
As usual the climax is the burning of the wires which are bent to form shapes and words...the norm for all MAFs and orientation campfires. Hope to see sth new and more creative next time but I guess it has already become a tradition that must be adhered to. Nevertheless, it's actually quite fun seeing things burn. However we dun like the consequences of burning things, like the haze...
The haze yesterday was quite bad, the worst in the recent years. Peaked at 130 in the morning and 150 at night. A long time since the PSI indicator was shown on TV. It was so bad that not only the visibility of the skyline was greatly lowered (like what is often observed in highlands like Genting), I can feel the smoke around me while walking on the streets (resembling the 'Silent Hill' environment). Can be quite eerie at night. Dun remember that the haze was this bad in 1997 when the PSI was much higher.
Anyway it has become much better this morning, the skies are clear and PSI has dropped to 20+. What a drastic change over a single night!
So ironic to see ppl burn candles/lanterns and play sparkles when the haze was already so terrible, haha.

A yummy birthday
Had a very happy birthday yesterday, as my stomach was extremely satisfied. Watched a movie in the morning, followed by Japanese cuisine for lunch, then an ice-cream treat at Swenson's. Thanks to Yong Feng for organising the outing, Zhe Han for the expensive treat, and not to forget wishing my fellow 'twin' Zhaoyang a happy birthday. =)
At night, my parents bought home a sumptuous birthday dinner, which consisted of lots of food including a KFC combo meal. It was more than satiating as I helped myself freely to the available food. Such a glutton...hehe. There was a birthday cake too, but haven't eaten it till now cos everyone was too full after the mini-buffet. Some of the leftovers spilled over to today's dinner too, haha. The fridge is so congested now, dun think I'll go hungry for the rest of this week. Irresistable, but must refrain from excess intakes at all costs!
Yeah, I'm getting fat. This is not the first time I said that, which means I'm much fatter than before (the jc days). Even the hairdresser auntie says so, haiz... A combined result of a slack vocation and my greediness. Must really take 'healthy lifestyles' and live runs more seriously from now on. My IPPT is coming soon...*cries*, think I'm going to fail badly, haven't been exercising consistently since BMT.
My jeans feel much tighter now...have trouble buttoning up sometimes...zzz...faaat.
*pokes fatty belly*......*fat wobbles*
