Babel
Watched Babel with Zhe Han yesterday morning. The theatre was so empty that there were only 2 of us seated when the movie started. (the movie surprisingly started on time too). Haha, it felt like the whole theatre belonged to ourselves. =)
Anyway the movie was ok, a bit on the artistic side so some parts can be rather boring to watch. But some scenery were quite nice, esp those showing the vastness of a desert, and the bustling city of Japan. What a huge diff, lol.
It became quite touching towards the end, when the Mexican nanny and her kids were stuck in the desert, and the poor Moroccan family lost its children to death and the police. This movie really shows how a wrong move made in critical situations can result in drastic consequences. (I dun like the police in this movie, so rude and rough...)
Oh ya, I was rather turned off by the despo-ness and nudity of the Japanese girl. She remained nude and din bothered to change back to her clothes at home...>_<
That reminds me, why do the girls in Let it Shine keeps getting raped? Even tomboy also can kena, lol. Never knew a school drama can be so sexual one...

Mechanical? Chemical?
Just receieved a letter from NUS regarding the request of changing courses. Was issued a PIN number to facilitate my re-application.
It has been almost a year but yet the great dilemma in my mind still persists: the choice between mechanical and chemical engineering, which has been bugging me since I looked up the various course offered by NUS early last year. Eventually chose mech eng due to the accompanying scholarship application. It appears that I was interested in scholarships which involved mech eng, yet my preference of study was chem eng. Never bothered with general scholarships like A*Star, Firefly, NUS undergrad scholarships etc, cos I thought competition was fierce and I would least likely be chosen with my pathetic non-academic achievements. (Had virtually nothing to boast abt besides academics)
After 2 failed interviews last year, I thought I would just go without any scholarships, but was then enocuraged by friends not to let my results go to waste, esp my S-papers. Hmm, another dilemma arises...but I guess there is no harm trying again after all.
Back to my mech-chem problem, I was heavily influenced towards a choice at several points of time, due to what I see, what I heard and what my peers say. I could be so determined to change course on one day, and decided to leave my application alone on another. Yeah it was really that drastic. My mind would become in a whirl whenever something triggers my desire towards either of the 2 courses.
Pros of choosing Mech Eng:
- easier to study; less stressful
- most of my friends also chose this course
- required for scholarships that I want
- more versatile degree
Pros of choosing Chem Eng:
- I'm better at chem than phy
- more prestigious degree
- harder to get in
- better students, fiercer competition
- more girls (...>_>)
I need your help guys, tell me if I should go mech or chem eng. (sry I dunno how to create a poll on my blog) Just one of them, either mech or chem. Dun say "depends on your interest/what you want", cos I'm interested in both and I want to study both but it's not possible. Might sound so desperate now as I want to put an end to my dilemma once and for all. Thanks for the help!
Worse come to worst I toss a coin like Mo Wanwan. =p
Wonder if my course decision would greatly affect my future. Wouldn't want to regret my choice few years later.
2 of my greatest academic regrets: a) Quitting 3rd language Japanese; b) Not studying triple science.

Let it Shine!
So far the first 2 episodes seem promising. Some exaggerated stuff, but it suits the light-hearted school comedy. Haha, I wonder if female teachers will start to dress as fashionable as Felicia Chin to school, the so-called 'dressing of a new age teacher'.
So many weird nicknames in the show, but the best one should be 'Stupid', from actual name 'Situ Bi'. Haha, how amazing of the scriptwriters to think of such names. Out of all the campus superstar in the show, I think Adriano acted the best. The character suits his personality I think, the talk-cock-lame-crap type haha. Zhiyang is too smart to act stupid, Renfred only owns at his goody-two-shoes pretty guy look, while Teresa sounds like an old lady. Anyway is Geraldine in the show at all??
Most teachers and staff are feng feng dian dian one...reminds me of the Jap drama Gokusen haha.
Heard songs from Angela Chang's new album, cant really find a slow song like Zhen De, but some of her fast/medium paced songs are nice. =)

Bus rant
Ok, I'm going to rant abt bus in this entry, particularly the service 171 which I rely on everyday to get to camp. 171 made me almost late yesterday morning, and late this morning. Grrr... =(
This was what happened: Yesterday morning I was waiting at the bus stop as usual. (let's call this Bus Stop A) Then 171 came and ppl quickly positioned themselves at the edge of the bus bay (let's call this 1st Bus). To my horror, 1st Bus was filled up to the door. As the door opened, everyone rushed up the steps and tried to squeeze a space for themslves, leaving me, who dun like to jostle my way in front, at the back. In the end, I became one of the few who did not manage to squeeze up the bus...
No choice, I had to wait for the next bus (let's call this 2nd Bus), which arrived 20 min later. It was actually quite empty, which makes me wonder why everyone decided to wake up at the same time and take the same bus. I reached camp at 7.40am, 5 min before fall-in timing. Fortunately I was able to change into my coveralls and get my attendance taken in time.
So this morning I decided to wait at 4 bus stops earlier. (let's call this Bus Stop B) However 1st Bus did not come after 10 min, so I guessed I had missed my bus. (Argh...have to rush again!) But this time, 2nd Bus came 25 min later! Much later than yesterday! Reached camp at abt 7.47am, where the mechs had already fallen out for breakfast. Having known that I might have to sign extras for being late, I was quite worried for the whole morning. Somehow my attendance was marked as 'MA', wonder who claimed that...>_>. Luckily at the end of the day, nobody called me up to sign extras.
Having excaped punishment both times, I can't afford to be late again. However this experience has led me to some discoveries and realised how it's not very possible to miss 1st Bus at Bus Stop A, and how 2nd Bus might result me in reaching camp much later than expected:
- 2nd Bus took as long as 10 min to clear the 3 bus stops after Bus Stop B to reach Bus Stop A! Due to numerous traffic lights and passengers boarding. Hence the chance of missing 1st Bus is lower at Bus Stop A than Bus Stop B.
- There is a few ppl taking 2nd Bus who always alight at the ulu bus stops along Mandai road, which 1st Bus usually bypasses. This makes 2nd Bus slower than expected.
Hopefully these pieces of info can serve me well for the next 1 year plus... I think it would be better to stick with Bus Stop A, despite the possibility of not getting up the bus.
That ends my rant about 171. With such low frequency, missing a bus can result in a very huge delay.
(*Did you know*: The bus with the highest frequency is SMRT's 190 with a shocking 2-6 min during peak hours, and 190 also scores for the highest ridership. The geographical location of Choa Chu Kang/Bukit Panjang can explain why...)

Rare class outing!
Spent almost the whole day in Orchard yesterday haha, what a tiring but fun day!
Went to shop for some CNY clothings with my pri sch friend Xian Hao before meeting up with the class in the evening for a super rare class outing! Who would have thought a class outing for 04S34 is still possible =p, all thanks to Mong, Shuk, Youcheng and whoever that has played a part in organising this gathering! The last time we gathered officially was during A lvl results day, almost a year liao. Very glad that the turnout is one of the best in our history of class outings (excluding JTS, STJ...).
Hey Wenjia you finally attended a class outing! And stayed till the end! Good job, well done! (haha, sry Wenjia...)
Had a wonderful dinner at Manhattan Fish Market before heading for kbox, after which we realised it was too expensive lol. Then went to eat Taufik...I mean tauhuay before settling at pool. My pool sucks as always. Game spoiler... Sry Mong lol.
Really wished I was in Uni now... And I realised quite a few ppl is going into NUS Mech Eng next year! Can expect some company liao, yay!
Here are some pics:

Shld be 'Here is a pic', since I'm keeping the rest to myself, heh heh.
Anyway here's a awesome video, a must-see for final fantasy players! Damn cool and hilarious, shows how cheesy and silly RPGs can be:

Chen Bi De releasing an album soon? You know that judge in Campus Superstar who likes to speak English? Heard his song over the radio, din know he could sing so well. =S

Forumites Outing
Went to Holland V Delifrance for dinner yesterday with a group of forumites. Feels great to meet up with online ppl cos it gives a element of suspense. =) But felt a bit left out when everyone else talked abt things that I'm not aware of. First outing with the group, so cant expect myself to immerse fully within the clique.
Seems like they are card fanatics too, spent some time walking ard looking for secluded places to play cards, after our games were stopped by a BK personnel. Playing cards in fast food restaurants...I'm not that hardcore to even think of that lol. Reminds me of JC days where almost everyone was addicted to cards: Took the risk to play at the class bench; Went to search for safe places, eg staircases, hidden building corners, band room, percussion room... (someone even suggested pipe/electrical storerooms omg!) The hardest was to find a good place to play cards in the city area. Virtually nowhere is safe =(
New school drama coming up soon! Felicia Chin as a fashionable teacher! The next Aiyoyo/Fang Laoshi? Cant wait to see how the class would be like. =)

Enough is Enough
I had enough of guard duties! 3 times a week is too far. I would have complained if there weren't offs given for weekend duties. We duty-fit ppl are suffering just because there are so many ppl not eligible for guard duties for some silly reasons.
Felt so dizzy the past few days, probably cos of the irregular sleeping hours. Not used to it...bah.
Update: I might be shifting house soon. =) Bye Bukit Panjang!
The Day After Tomorrow will be showing on Ch 5 next Sunday! Flooding...I like, haha. =) Prepare your sweaters!

Back to work
Yawn...the 1 week+ of year-end holidays is over, it's back to oil and dirt. Another guard duty awaiting tmr, sigh. Jiayou for those going for sch again =).
Dawn Yeoh will be starring in a coming engineering-themed drama and I can say she's quite pretty in the show, compared to her previous pauper girl image in Xing Shan Shan. Now that I notice closely, she really does look like Fann. Acting alongside Christopher in the show, it seems like a imitation of Chris-Fann relationship haha.
But I think Dawn is prettier, her cheeks are not as puffy as Fann, hehe. And of course, she's much younger (1 or 2 years older than me?) than Fann who is at her mid-thirties.
For those who still dunno who I'm talking abt here's a pic:

4 hours before I must wake up again, gotta go to bed now...dawwwwn...i mean yawwwwn...

Happy 2006! (Part 2)
Seeing so many ppl ranking the songs they like, I have decided to do one on my own too! After all I'm a avid listener of songs, only mandarin song that is, haha. Since I'm free listener (only listens to what is played on radio), it's quite difficult for me to rank the songs exactly, so I will just list my top 20 songs of the year.
2006 Top 20 songs: (not in order)
独唱情歌 - Tank/Selina
天天夜夜 - F.I.R.
Love Story - 范逸臣
雨天 - 孙燕姿
大城小爱 - 王力宏
There are 3 songs that I exceptionally like, so I decided to take them out of my main list. =)
And the songs are...
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Congrats! Songs from 2 of my favourite singers. ^_^
可乐戒指 - 梁静茹
都是你 - 光良
And one more last song, which I love very very much. It shall be my No. 1 song for 2006! Attracted to this song ever since the first time I heard it. Makes me very emotional, esp the last chorus. =)
.
.
.
.
.
.
真的 - 张韶函
Haha, quite shocking. I seem to be the only one among my friends who appreciate this song a lot. Even one of my friend who listens to radio frequently doesn't know abt this song. >_<

Happy 2006! (Part 1)
Sucks to spend the last day of 2006 in camp doing guard duty. What a significant way to mark the end of the year. >_> That's not all, 2 more guard duties are following closely behind, which makes 3 duties within the span of 1 week. Superb planning isn't it?
There is no typo in the entry title, after all this entry will be abt my review of 2006, the first year I stopped studying in school after more than 12 years of my life. =) The special feeling of not having to worry abt homework, oblivious to school holidays...
Have watched 14 movies this year, which sets my highest record of the most movies watched in a year. Let's see how the movies rank in my viewership ratings.
14) Click: Quite a meaningful movie along with the humour, which can be quite ridiculous at times. However the over-exposure to spoilers destroyed my enjoyment of this show. =( Rating: 5.5/10
13) John Tucker Must Die: Laugh and forget, as what I always described for this movie. Can't forget a particular part of the story though, when the girl said "Because I'm lovely." Good one there. Rating: 6/10
12) Dragon Tiger Gate: Why is there always literal translation of chinese movie titles when dragons and tigers are involved? Can't they use a better translation? Some cheesy, exaggerated fighting scenes. Rating: 6/10
11) Memoirs of a Geisha: My first movie of the year. Not bad, but the language and culture behind the making of the film seem a bit rojak. Chinese actresses speaking English in a Japanese setting. Rating: 6.5/10
10) Da Vinci Code: Have never read the book beforehand, thus enjoyed the movie better than the readers. =) Reminds me of National Treasure, where the protagonists travel ard looking for clues. Dun quite like the part when they debate too much on Christianity. Rating: 6.5/10
9) Mission Impossible 3: Unbelievable technologies, haha. Really amazing to see how the ppl complete seemingly impossible tasks. Rating: 7/10
8) Poseidon: Watched this on the same day as MI3. Liked the sinking scenes in this movie as much as those in Titanic. Lol I'm so sadistic! I've a fetish to see things flooding and sinking...(like The Day After Tmr) Thought of watching The Sinking of Japan too, but definitely nobody would accompany me. Rating: 7/10
7) Curse of the Golden Flower: I like the flowery settings in this movie. =) The plot is rather interesting too. Rating: 7/10
6) Over The Hedge: This kind of animated movies never fail to amuse me, who could ever forget the squirrel (?) which stopped the rotation of the Earth? Exaggerated but really funny. The explosion caused by the skunk is also hilarious. =p Rating: 7.5/10
5) Pirates of the Caribbean: Haha, Jack Sparrow gets into trouble again! Can't wait for the 3rd series! Rating: 7.5/10
4) X-Men 3: I like the last part of the movie, showdown on the island. Nice to watch how different 'mutants' exhibited their unique abilities to deal with the situations. Rating: 8/10
3) Death Note 2: Loses out to the first part because it gives a very cramped feeling, like Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. So much plot has to unfold within the short 140 minutes of the show. Nevertheless I still enjoyed the movie. =) Rating: 8/10
2) I Not Stupid Too: Better than the first instalment imo. There were as much humour as emotional scenes, which made ppl ku xiao bu de. Very well done. Rating: 8.5/10
1) Death Note 1: My top movie of the year! The presentation of the movie was much better than I expect from reading the manga. Despite knowing most of the story beforehand, I was still intrigued by the mystery and suspense, esp at the last part. Light is indeed a true genius. (L as well too, haha) Rating: 9.5/10
